Job Description

 

We are looking for a hands-on, technically strong and proactive Assistant Maintenance Manager to join our Engineering & Maintenance team.

This is a 70% hands-on / 30% administrative role, ideal for an engineering professional who enjoys being on the floor, solving technical problems, supervising teams and ensuring the hotel's facilities, plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently and reliably.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Maintenance Manager / Chief Engineer in the daily management and supervision of the Engineering & Maintenance Department.

Lead and supervise the Maintenance team, allocate daily tasks and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.

Maintain a strong hands-on presence on the floor, supporting troubleshooting, repairs, inspections and technical interventions.

Implement and monitor the hotel's Preventive Maintenance Programme (PMP) and ensure schedules and records are maintained.

Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical and electromechanical faults and breakdowns.

Oversee the maintenance of hotel systems and equipment, including HVAC, refrigeration, generators, pumps, motors, electrical installations, plumbing, kitchen/laundry equipment, water systems and fire/life-safety systems.

Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas and plant rooms to identify defects and potential failures.

Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies and minimise equipment downtime and disruption to hotel operations.

Coordinate maintenance requests and ensure timely completion and follow-up of work orders.

Supervise external contractors and service providers, ensuring quality, safety and compliance.

Assist with spare-parts management, quotations, maintenance costs and departmental reporting.

Support energy conservation, sustainability and cost-efficiency initiatives.

Ensure compliance with health & safety, fire safety, environmental and applicable regulatory requirements.

Coach and develop Maintenance team members to improve technical skills, safety awareness and performance.

Monitor maintenance KPIs, recurring breakdowns and equipment reliability, recommending corrective actions where required.

Assist with engineering projects, renovations, installations and capital expenditure works.

Act on behalf of the Maintenance Manager / Chief Engineer when required.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

·        A Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

·        Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in hotel, resort, commercial building or industrial maintenance, preferably at supervisory level.

·        Strong practical knowledge of electrical, mechanical and electromechanical systems.

·        Proven experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.

·        Good knowledge of hotel engineering systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, generators, pumps, motors, plumbing and building services.

·        Proven ability to lead and supervise a technical team.

·        Good knowledge of health & safety and fire-safety requirements.

·        Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical diagrams and equipment manuals.

·        Good IT, organisational, reporting and communication skills.

·        Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to remain calm and effective during breakdowns and emergencies.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a practical and solution-oriented engineering professional who is comfortable working directly with equipment and maintenance teams.

You should be technically confident, proactive in identifying potential failures, capable of diagnosing problems and able to lead a team while maintaining high standards of safety, reliability and service.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

70% hands-on / floor-based technical work

30% planning, administration and reporting

Flexible working hours according to the operational requirements of a 24/7 hospitality environment.

The successful candidate must be willing and available to work shifts, Sundays and Public Holidays, as required by the hotel's operational needs.

The candidate may be required to carry out night interventions and respond to operational requirements outside normal working hours, when necessary.

Availability to respond to emergency breakdowns, critical operational incidents and urgent maintenance requirements.

Availability to provide support during natural calamities and other emergency situations, including cyclones, in accordance with the hotel's emergency procedures.
