Job Description

Established in 1989 and part of Ciel Textile, the textile cluster of CIEL Group, CDL Knits Ltd is the Fabric Mill division of the Tropic Knits Group.  Delivering high-quality fabrics to global markets, our fully integrated knitting, dyeing, and finishing facility is located in Forest Side, Mauritius.

We are now seeking a Chemical Engineering Trainee to join our Dyeing Laboratory, gaining hands-on exposure to textile manufacturing while contributing to process improvement, operational efficiency and cost optimisation initiatives.  

What you will be doing:

  • Perform WRF calculations and analyse results to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct shrinkage calculations and monitor results.
  • Participate in Production Improvement / Kaizen projects to improve productivity, quality and process efficiency.
  • Analyse machine stoppage time across production equipment, identify recurring issues and recommend actions to reduce downtime.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of failures and operational issues and propose corrective and preventive actions.
  • Carry out a detailed consumables analysis within the Finishing Department, covering items such as thread, copy paper, scissors and other operational consumables.
  • Analyse consumption trends and identify opportunities to reduce wastage and optimise costs.
  • Assist in determining and analysing the Finishing Cost/kg, including DCA, energy, manpower and consumables.
  • Collect, analyse and present production data to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with Dye Lab, Production, Finishing and other relevant teams on assigned improvement projects.

What are we looking for?

  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good numerical and data analysis abilities.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Interest in manufacturing processes, continuous improvement and cost optimisation.
  • Ability to conduct structured analysis and identify root causes of operational issues.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented and willing to work in a manufacturing environment.
