Job Description

About the Role

As part of the continued development of our automotive operations, Universal Motors Ltd is looking for an experienced Automotive Workshop Manager to join its aftersales team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the management of workshop operations, providing strong technical leadership and supervision, maintaining high standards of workmanship and quality control, and working closely with the aftersales team and management on customer, technical and operational matters.

We are looking for a highly experienced automotive professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgement, leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal skills, who can contribute to the continued development of our operations and grow with the company.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations

  • Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities of the automotive workshop.
  • Plan, allocate and monitor work among technicians and workshop personnel.
  • Monitor work in progress and ensure repairs and maintenance are completed efficiently and within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of workshop manpower, bays, tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate with service advisors and parts personnel to ensure the smooth progression of jobs.

Technical Support & Diagnostics

  • Provide technical guidance and support to technicians on diagnostic and repair matters.
  • Assist with complex diagnoses and technical cases where required.
  • Ensure repairs and maintenance are carried out according to proper technical procedures and manufacturer standards.
  • Ensure systematic and accurate fault diagnosis.

Quality Control

  • Ensure high standards of workmanship across workshop activities.
  • Carry out and/or oversee appropriate quality checks before vehicle release.
  • Investigate repeat repairs, technical complaints and workmanship issues.
  • Ensure corrective action is taken where necessary.
  • Promote a right-first-time approach and continuous improvement in repair quality.

Team Management

  • Supervise, guide and support technicians and workshop personnel.
  • Monitor productivity, efficiency, discipline and quality of work.
  • Identify technical and training needs and contribute to the development of the workshop team.
  • Promote a professional, organised and safe working environment.

Customer & Aftersales Support

  • Assist service advisors and management with technical explanations and recommendations.
  • Deal professionally with customers on technical and service-related matters when required.
  • Assist in the assessment of warranty cases, repair estimates and technical concerns.
  • Support the effective coordination of workshop and aftersales activities.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve workshop efficiency, service quality and customer satisfaction.
Candidate Profile
  • Extensive experience in the automotive service and repair industry.
  • Strong practical knowledge of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics and repair.
  • Good knowledge of modern automotive mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience within an automotive workshop or service environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good leadership, organisational and team-management skills.
  • Strong commitment to workmanship and quality control.
  • Professional and confident in dealing with customers.
  • Responsible, proactive and able to exercise sound judgement.
  • High level of integrity, accountability and professionalism.
  • Knowledge or experience with electric and hybrid vehicles would be an advantage.
  • Relevant automotive or mechanical qualification would be an advantage.
  • Good command of English and French.
