Job Description
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Land Surveyor to join our team.
The candidate will support surveying, site preparation, construction setting-out and monitoring activities while ensuring accuracy, quality and compliance with health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Surveying & Site Preparation
- Assist with reviewing topographical drawings, project plans and technical documents.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing site conditions and verify available information.
- Carry out field surveys and measurements when required.
- Assist in preparing and updating execution and surveying drawings.
- Support the preparation of quantities and technical information required for project execution.
Setting-Out & Construction Monitoring
- Carry out construction setting-out activities using appropriate surveying equipment.
- Establish points, levels, alignments and coordinates according to approved drawings.
- Carry out staking/marking and indicate required levels and dimensions on site.
- Assist with setting-out for earthworks, drainage, alignment and other construction activities.
- Work closely with the Site/Project Manager to verify setting-out works.
- Perform additional surveys and measurements as required during project execution.
- Identify discrepancies between site conditions and drawings and report them to the relevant supervisor.
Project Documentation
- Assist in updating surveying and execution documents according to project progress.
- Prepare and maintain accurate surveying records.
- Assist with preparation of as-built / as-constructed drawings and documentation.
- Ensure proper filing and archiving of surveying documents at project completion.
Equipment & Material Control
- Ensure surveying instruments and equipment are properly maintained and handled.
- Participate in equipment checks, calibration and maintenance follow-up.
- Assist with monitoring quantities and stock levels of construction materials where required.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Comply with company health and safety procedures and site regulations.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, risks or discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality and professionalism in all surveying activities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be:
- Detail-oriented, precise and methodical.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Well organised and able to manage priorities and deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a construction/site environment.
- Able to interpret technical drawings and project documentation.
- Good at problem-solving and identifying discrepancies.
- Reliable, responsible and committed to health and safety requirements.
- Valid driving license would be an advantage
Qualifications & Experience
- BSC / Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Topography or a related field would be an advantage.
- Relevant technical qualification in surveying/topography or equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- Previous experience in construction surveying, setting-out or a similar position would be an advantage.
- Fresh graduates with relevant qualifications may also be considered.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of surveying and setting-out techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and topographical drawings.
- Familiarity with surveying instruments and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of construction processes and site activities.
- Good computer literacy.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and technical documentation.
