The Assistant Executive Housekeeper supports the Executive Housekeeper in the overall management and daily operation of the Housekeeping Department, ensuring that all guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, linen operations and related facilities consistently meet the hotel's 5-star standards.

The position is responsible for assisting in the planning, organisation, supervision and control of housekeeping operations, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, service and guest satisfaction.

The Assistant Executive Housekeeper acts as a key operational leader within the department and ensures effective communication and coordination between Housekeeping, Front Office, Engineering, Food & Beverage and other departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and duties for this position shall include but be unlimited to the following areas and activities. At management discretion, direction may be given for tasks outside the scope of work described.

Housekeeping Operations

  • Assist the Executive Housekeeper in planning, organising and supervising the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department.
  • Ensure guest rooms, suites, villas, corridors, public areas, back-of-house areas and other assigned areas are maintained to 5-star standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
  • Monitor room status and ensure effective coordination with Front Office for room availability and readiness.
  • Ensure VIP rooms, special occasions, repeat guests and priority rooms are prepared according to guest preferences and hotel standards.
  • Monitor and follow up on room discrepancies, out-of-order rooms, deep-cleaning requirements and maintenance issues.
  • Ensure effective implementation of daily cleaning schedules, periodic cleaning programmes and preventive housekeeping routines.
  • Assist in managing special cleaning projects, refurbishments, renovations and seasonal deep-cleaning programmes.
  • Ensure all housekeeping equipment, chemicals and supplies are used correctly, safely and efficiently.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, guide and motivate Housekeeping Supervisors, Room Attendants, Public Area Attendants and other assigned team members.
  • Ensure adequate allocation of manpower according to occupancy, business levels, VIP arrivals, departures and operational requirements.
  • Conduct daily briefings and communicate operational priorities, guest requirements and departmental information to the team.
  • Monitor employee attendance, grooming, punctuality, discipline and adherence to hotel policies.
  • Coach and develop team members to improve productivity, service standards and technical skills.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate with the Talent Development/Training team to address competency gaps.
  • Assist in performance evaluations, disciplinary procedures, counselling and recognition initiatives where required.
  • Promote teamwork, employee engagement and a positive working environment within the department.

Quality & Guest Experience

  • Ensure consistent compliance with the hotel's 5-star service and cleanliness standards.
  • Monitor guest feedback, complaints and service recovery related to Housekeeping.
  • Take immediate corrective action on guest complaints and ensure appropriate follow-up until resolution.
  • Conduct quality audits and inspections and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure guest preferences and special requests are communicated and followed through effectively.
  • Work closely with Front Office and Guest Relations to ensure a seamless guest experience.

Health, Safety & Hygiene

  • Ensure compliance with hotel health, safety, hygiene and environmental standards.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage and use of cleaning chemicals and housekeeping equipment.
  • Report hazards, accidents, defects and unsafe practices immediately and ensure appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensure housekeeping team members are properly trained in safe working practices.
  • Support the hotel's sustainability initiatives, including responsible use of water, energy, chemicals, linen and other resources.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Mauritian legislation and hotel policies relating to occupational safety, hygiene and employment practices.

Cost Control & Productivity

  • Assist the Executive Housekeeper in controlling departmental operating costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Monitor productivity levels and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure proper control of overtime, casual labour and additional manpower requirements.
  • Monitor departmental consumption and minimise unnecessary wastage.
  • Assist in preparing departmental forecasts, budgets and operational requirements.
  • Analyse housekeeping operational data and provide recommendations for improvement

Interdepartmental Coordination

  • Maintain close communication with Front Office regarding room status, arrivals, departures, room moves and guest requirements.
  • Coordinate with Engineering regarding maintenance defects, preventive maintenance and out-of-order rooms.
  • Work closely with Food & Beverage regarding housekeeping requirements for restaurants, bars and events.
  • Coordinate with Security regarding lost and found items, suspicious incidents and guest/property-related matters.
  • Collaborate with HR and Talent Development on recruitment, training, employee relations and development initiatives.
  • Maintain effective communication with all departments to ensure smooth hotel operations.

Administration & Reporting

  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping reports.
  • Monitor departmental KPIs, productivity, quality scores, guest feedback and operational performance.
  • Ensure accurate completion of checklists, inspection reports, room status reports and other departmental records.
  • Assist the Executive Housekeeper in preparing departmental schedules, manpower plans and operational forecasts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information, employee matters and hotel business information.
  • Perform administrative duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper or Senior Management.

Qualifications

Qualification:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Hotel Management, Hospitality Management or a related discipline is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant Housekeeping experience in a 4/5-star hotel or luxury resort.
  • Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial Housekeeping position.
  • Experience in a property with 250+ rooms is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a luxury resort environment and knowledge of international housekeeping standards.
  • Previous experience in Mauritius or an international luxury hospitality environment would be an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of luxury housekeeping operations and standards.
  • Good understanding of room inspection procedures and cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge of linen, uniform and housekeeping inventory management.
  • Good manpower planning and workforce scheduling skills.
  • Understanding of housekeeping cost control and productivity management.

  • Knowledge of hotel PMS and housekeeping management systems.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
