Job Description
The Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of tractors and agricultural machinery to support land preparation, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, and transportation activities. The role ensures that all equipment is operated in accordance with safety standards, company procedures, and environmental regulations while maintaining high levels of productivity and precision. The Operator is also responsible for conducting routine inspections, performing basic preventive maintenance, reporting mechanical issues, and working collaboratively with supervisors and field teams to ensure the timely completion of agricultural operations.
DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES
• Safely operate tractors for plowing, harrowing, tilling, and other essential tasks at assigned fields.
• Operate specialized machinery such as planters, harvesters, seeders, and sprayers for various stages of crop production as and when required.
• Maintain a high level of calibration, precision and efficiency in machinery operation to optimize field preparation and minimize downtime.
• Assembling and/ or disassembling attachments on/from the Tractor.
• Operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Park on a level ground in a safe environment to limited fire and theft hazard.
• Prepare fields for planting by effectively using tractors and other machinery to plow, harrow, and till the soil, ensuring optimal conditions for crop growth.
• Collaborate with other team members in fields and soil preparation, planting and harvesting
• Monitor soil conditions and adjust operations to ensure that operation is executed in the most effective way possible.
• Operate tractors and any other equipment for Harvest Operation.
• Transport harvested produce to storage or processing areas.
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of tractors and other equipment to ensure their continued optimal functionality.
• Troubleshoot and identify mechanical issues, reporting them to management and supporting the repair or replacement process.
• Ensure that the equipment's cooling system is functioning properly at all times by doing weekly checking and basic maintenance.
• To check fuel, oil level and water separator daily.
• Ensure effective diesel consumption while operating designated tractor.
• Ensure daily walk around of tractor, cleaning equipment and report any problem or failure noted on tractor or equipment to your line manager immediately.
• Work closely with field supervisors, field workers, and other personnel to coordinate operations.
• Foster a positive work environment by communicating effectively with supervisor, line manager and colleagues.
Minimum experience requirements
• At least 2 years of experience in operating tractors or similar heavy agricultural machinery in farming environments.
Minimum education requirements
• SC or any related certification in heavy motors vehicle.
