Job Description
Gaz Carbonique Ltée is looking for a Part-time Registered Safety and Health Officer to support its operations and strengthen its safety culture.
This role is suited to a hands-on professional who is comfortable working in an industrial environment, engaging with employees at all levels and following safety matters through from identification to closure.
Your Role
As Registered Safety and Health Officer, you will:
- Act as the company’s main adviser on occupational safety and health matters.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and health legislation and statutory requirements.
- Conduct workplace inspections and risk assessments across our sites and activities.
- Identify hazards, recommend practical control measures and follow up on their implementation.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences.
- Monitor corrective actions and ensure that safety issues are closed within agreed deadlines.
- Prepare and deliver safety inductions, training sessions, toolbox talks and awareness programmes.
- Support emergency preparedness, drills and response arrangements.
- Review contractor safety requirements and monitor high-risk activities.
- Maintain safety records, registers, reports and compliance documentation.
- Track safety performance and provide regular updates to management.
- Promote employee participation and a proactive approach to workplace safety.
- Keep the company informed of changes in occupational safety and health legislation.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should have:
- A recognised degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Occupational Safety and Health Management.
- Valid registration as a Safety and Health Officer in Mauritius.
- At least three years of relevant experience.
- Good knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2005 and related regulations.
- Experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, workplace inspection and safety training.
- Strong organisational, communication and report-writing skills.
- A proactive, practical and solution-oriented approach.
- The ability to work independently and manage several priorities.
- Fluency in English and French.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A valid driving licence.
Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, construction or industrial environment would be an advantage.
