Job Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Safety & Health team, fostering a high-performance culture built on collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the effective management of Safety & Health across the company's operational footprint, including supermarkets, warehouses, offices, dormitories and other facilities, ensuring consistent standards across all sites.
  • Translate the company's Safety & Health objectives into practical action plans, ensuring their effective implementation and continuous monitoring across the business.
  • Provide expert guidance and practical solutions to managers on occupational safety, health and risk management, supporting safe and compliant day-to-day operations.
  • Drive compliance with all Safety & Health legislation, company policies and industry best practices, while keeping management informed of emerging legal and regulatory developments.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and mitigation of workplace risks, ensuring timely investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement following incidents, near misses and audits.
  • Ensure operational readiness by overseeing emergency response plans, business continuity measures and workplace inspections across all company sites.
  • Build strong partnerships with operational teams, regulators and external stakeholders to promote a safe, compliant and healthy working environment.
  • Develop organisational capability by identifying training needs, delivering awareness initiatives and ensuring all statutory Safety & Health requirements are met.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, employee engagement and continuous awareness programmes.
  • Manage departmental performance and resources, including budgets, reporting, committee governance and the effective delivery of Safety & Health initiatives.
  • Contribute to business improvement projects, providing technical expertise and practical recommendations to ensure Safety & Health considerations are embedded in operational decisions and change initiatives.

Job requisites:

  • BSc in Safety and Health Management or any other equivalent qualifications
  • At least 5 years of proven supervisory experience in a Safety and Health Management
  • Conversant with MS Office Suite
  • Experience in the retail sector will constitute an advantage
  • Up-to-date knowledge of trends and best practices in the field of Safety and Health
  • Ability to effectively deal with a variety of audience, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Committed to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Detail and results-oriented
  • Be employee service-oriented
  • Holder of a valid driving licence
