Job Description
As a Senior Database Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, reliability, security, performance and continuous improvement of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments. You will own the full database lifecycle, ensuring production platforms remain highly available, secure and optimized while supporting development teams in designing scalable, maintainable and high-performing database solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
• Administer Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.
• Manage provisioning, configuration, capacity planning and lifecycle of databases.
• Ensure platform availability, reliability and operational health.
Database Development
• Design and maintain database objects including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers and indexes.
• Maintain naming conventions and database standards.
• Ensure data model consistency and integrity.
Performance & Optimization
• Analyse Query Store, execution plans, DMVs and Azure performance metrics.
• Tune T-SQL queries and indexing strategies.
• Investigate blocking, deadlocks and concurrency issues.
• Optimize large-scale workloads.
Maintenance & Reliability
• Define and maintain proactive database maintenance plans.
• Manage statistics, index maintenance, integrity checks and storage growth.
• Implement retention, archival and purge strategies.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
• Define backup and recovery strategies.
• Validate restore procedures.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity.
• Maintain high availability configurations where applicable.
Security & Governance
• Manage database security, authentication and authorization.
• Implement least privilege principles.
• Support audit and compliance requirements.
• Secure sensitive business data.
Deployment & Automation
• Manage version-controlled SQL deployments.
• Review deployment scripts and rollback strategies.
• Automate repetitive administration tasks using T-SQL and PowerShell.
Technical Leadership
• Provide technical guidance on database architecture and best practices.
• Support engineering teams during solution design.
• Perform root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement.

Experience

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
