Job Description

Primary Purpose

The Assistant Finance Executive shall assist the Financial Controller and the Finance Executive for the day-to-day management of the accounting department of the Group to ensure inter alia:

o   Assist in providing executive management with accurate and comprehensive financial information to guide effective policy making and financial strategizing

o   Assist in maintaining internal controls over financial reporting

o   Involved in the preparation of budgets

o   Assist in overseeing the preparation of monthly management accounts for all the group companies with comparison with budget and explanations of variances and including the month end figures and the year-to-date figures.  Accounts to include the balance sheet, the profit and loss and the cash flow statement as well as the monthly cash flow forecasts to year end for presentation to Executive Management

o   Involved in the preparation of the annual financial statements in line with IFRS and IAS for all the group companies as well as consolidated accounts for audit

o   Involved in the quarterly preparation of the group’s consolidated accounts

o   Assist in overseeing intercompany transactions and reconciliations and ensure proper documentation, and disclosure of related party transactions

o   Ensure business and accounting processes are adequate and that financial controls are in place and effective

o   Oversee the monthly close of the accounts and carry out month end controls to ensure that all group companies are properly closing monthly accounts ensuring completeness and accuracy of same and correct errors and inconsistencies

o   Ensure proper follow up of debtors and creditors and carry out monthly ageing analyses

o   Review payments for compliance with the group procurement policy before approval

o   Assist in maintaining the fixed asset register and ensuring periodic asset verification exercises are performed

o   Analyse and interpret any required financial information, business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses

o   Design, implement and maintain internal controls over financial policies, procedures and financial reporting

o   Ensure standardised reporting across operations

o   Assist in driving continuous process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance function

o   Undertake ad hoc assignments to ensure the effectiveness and continuous improvement of internal controls

o   Liaise with external and internal auditors and that the audit process is managed correctly without major issues

o   Establish and maintain professional relationship with service providers, bankers, auditors, insurance companies, tax authorities, suppliers and other related stakeholders

Budgeting and forecasting

o   Assist in the preparation of the company’s/group’s consolidated periodic budgets and forecasts in line with established deadlines; and

o   Assist in the preparation of monthly cash flow forecasts for companies within the group in line with established deadlines.

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor's Degree in:

o   Finance

o   Accounting

o   Business Administration

o   Economics

o   ACCA (partly or fully completed), CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification

Experience

  • Usually 2–3 years of experience in auditing, accounting, finance, or a similar role.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting is often preferred.
