Job Description
The Officer - IT Infrastructure
(Database) is responsible to administer the bank database management
systems. The latter is responsible to perform thorough testing before
installing software, apply patches/upgrades, manage file systems, monitor
performance and troubleshoot alerts from various monitoring tools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Perform thorough testing before installing software, apply patches/upgrades, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source or in-house developed monitoring tools.
· System failure analysis and recovery
· Hardware/software configuration and management.
· Technical support and general troubleshooting.
· Mapping out the 'conceptual design' for a planned database in outline.
· Defining the 'logical design' of the database
· Further defining the 'physical design' to meet system storage requirements.
· Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS).
· Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
· Writing database documentation, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata').
· Controlling access permissions and privileges.
· Developing, managing and testing backup and recovery plans.
· Ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
· Capacity planning.
· Working closely with vendors, IT project managers, application and other system admins.
· Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.

PREREQUISITES:
· University degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar field
· Experience of at least 1 year as database administrator.
· Database certifications will be an advantage
SKILLS:
· Detailed knowledge of SQL & Oracle Database
· Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows, Linux, AIX, Oracle Solaris and server platforms.
· Knowledge of Postgres and mongoDb is a plus
· Problem solving and solution oriented
· Good verbal and written communication and reporting skills
· Highly committed to customer service by providing support to users for all Banking systems
· Team player with good interpersonal skills
· Excellent technical skills
· Work under tight deadlines
· Self-management and learning with very little supervision required
