Our client in the property sector is seeking to recruit a Sustainability Lead who will report to Chief Development Officer. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies across all companies.

 

This role ensures the efficient use of resources, compliance with environmental regulations, and the promotion of sustainable practices across operations. The Sustainability Lead will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance sustainability performance, mitigate risks, and foster community engagement.

Responsibilities:

Sustainability strategy development:
  • Define and implement a comprehensive sustainability roadmap for all companies.
  • Develop and oversee the sustainability action plan in collaboration with project teams and specialists.
  • Integrate sustainability considerations into business operations and decision-making processes.

Resource management and reporting:
  • Oversee the efficient use of resources to minimise waste and reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Design and develop sustainability indices, Key Result Areas (KRA), and Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
  • Implement and monitor technology to track sustainability data records.
  • Report sustainability performance and compliance to senior management and stakeholders.

Stakeholder collaboration:
  • Work closely with colleagues, clients, and suppliers to promote sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate with the company group teams on project design for operational sustainability.
  • Engage with local communities and stakeholders to enhance social sustainability and community resilience.

Compliance and legislation monitoring:
  • Advise senior management on environmental regulations and sustainability legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with national laws and standards.
  • Assist in proposing sustainability initiatives to the Council of Members of the AFM.

Risk management:
  • Identify and mitigate sustainability-related risks across projects and operations.
  • Assess environmental risks and propose strategies to minimise their impact.

Sustainable design and innovation:
  • Participate in project and masterplan design (buildings and infrastructure) to incorporate sustainability components such as bioclimatic design, landscaping, green stormwater management, and tiny forests.
  • Advise on new construction materials and technologies to reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Design and implement energy efficiency initiatives, water and waste management strategies.

Budget management:
  • Oversee budgets for sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify cost-effective solutions that align with financial and environmental goals.
Profile:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in one of the following areas:
  • Environmental Science,
  • Sustainable Development,
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),
  • Environmental Management or related field,
  • Business Administration with a specialisation in ESG or sustainability.

Experience:
  • 3 to 5+ years of relevant experience in sustainability, environmental management, or corporate social responsibility, ideally with exposure to:
  • Implementing and monitoring sustainability strategies,
  • Waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation projects,
  • Biodiversity, land management (particularly in estate/property contexts),
  • ESG reporting and compliance with environmental regulations or standards (e.g. ISO 14001, GRI, SDGs, etc.),
  • Stakeholder engagement (internal teams, suppliers, regulatory bodies, local communities),
