A Lifeguard, also known as a Lifesaver, plays a critical role in ensuring water safety for swimmers.
Lifeguard Duties and Responsibilities:
Surveillance and Rescue:
- Survey the water area to identify potential hazards.
- Conduct rescues to assist weak or injured swimmers, ensuring their safe return to shore.
- Administer first aid to injured individuals.
Enforcement of Rules:
- Speak with swimmers to enforce swimming rules and guidelines.
- Keep track of each swimmer in the water.
Pool Maintenance and Safety:
- Open and close the pool according to scheduled hours.
- Regularly treat the pool with the correct amount of chemicals.
- Monitor weather reports to ensure guest safety.
- Organize and oversee pool parties.
Teaching and Coaching:
- Provide swim lessons to both kids and adults.
- Assist in the development and marketing of innovative swim programs.
Lifeguard Qualifications:
- Current accredited Lifeguarding Certification or the ability to obtain it at the time of hire.
- Prior experience in lifeguarding or teaching swim lessons.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to obtain them at the time of hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Frequent walking and demonstrating exercise movements.
- Bending, stretching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and squatting are movements performed daily.
