The Health and Safety officer’s core responsibility is to support and assist the Health and Safety Manager and other stakeholders in the organization, to implement Cementis Health and Safety Policies and procedures and see to it that Cementis also complies to OSHA 2005 and ISO45001.

 

  • · Health & Safety Management System
The Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with Cementis Mauritius safety standards, conducting risk assessments for new equipment and processes, and ensuring zero LTI/fatalities. They also inspect vehicles, assist in implementing safety improvement plans, maintain the Health & Safety management system, conduct toolbox talks, and participate in safety week activities to raise safety culture.
  • Legal Requirements
The Health & Safety Officer is responsible for conducting regular inspections, verifications, and reports on equipment and machinery, as well as maintaining fire certificates and safety protocols. They coordinate H&S committees, investigate dangerous situations, review risk assessments, ensure proper use of PPE, and maintain fire detection and suppression systems, adhering to OSHA 2005 requirements.
  • Empowerment of Staff in H&S and Implementation of H&S
The role involves coaching and training staff on H&S, involving them in risk assessments, participating in new projects, and supporting managers during emergencies and crisis.
  • Contactor Management
As a Health & Safety Officer, ensure contractors follow Cementis Mauritius Health and Safety standards, verify permits, conduct safety talks, ensure PPE use, and evaluate contractors on H&S.
  • Implementation of an integrated management system (ISO 9001, 14001 and ISO 45001)
The Health & Safety Officer is involved in implementing an integrated management system, maintaining an Internal Audit Schedule, and analyzing quality systems and audit information. It involves identifying non-conforming conditions, determining corrective actions, and coordinating post-audit follow-up. The role also involves maintaining and improving the quality management system, supporting process improvement, providing access to standards and documentation, and maintaining SHEQ management systems. The role also involves updating IMS and communicating assessment findings with stakeholders.
