The Group's Financial Controller will ensure that executive management receives accurate financial data to inform effective policy decisions, maintaining internal controls over financial reporting, and supervising budget preparation.

 

Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts for all the group companies with comparison with budget and explanations of variances and including the month end figures and the year to date figures.  Accounts to include the balance sheet, the profit and loss and the cash flow statement as well as the monthly cash flow forecasts to year end for presentation to Executive Management;
  • Timely preparation of the annual financial statements in line with IFRS and IAS for all the group companies as well as consolidated accounts for audit;
  • Prepare, examine and analyse accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance with reporting and relevant accounting standards;
  • Review monthly profit and loss and balance sheet items and investigate variances and wrong postings;
  • Ensure business and accounting processes are adequate and that financial controls are in place and effective
  • Oversee treasury management processes to ensure same are effective
  • Bank reconciliations to be carried out on a weekly basis;
  • Oversee the monthly close of the accounts and carry out month end controls to ensure that all group companies are properly closing monthly accounts ensuring completeness and accuracy of same and correct errors and inconsistencies;
  • Ensure proper follow up of debtors and creditors and carry out monthly ageing analyses;
  • Ensure proper filing and archiving system is in place for all accounting records of the group companies;
  • Analyse and interpret any required financial information, business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses;
  • Ensure that a proper fixed assets register is maintained for the group companies
  • Design, implement and maintain internal controls over financial policies, procedures and financial reporting
  • Ensure standardised reporting across operations
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors and that the audit process is managed correctly without major issues
  • Ensuring that an organisation meets the necessary tax, permit and licencing requirements
  • Ensure proper insurance policies are in place and the timely renewal of same for all companies within the group
  • Ensure that the legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions are met
  • Establish and maintain professional relationship with service providers, bankers, auditors, insurance companies, tax authorities, suppliers and other related stakeholders

 Budgeting and forecasting:

  • Prepare the company’s/group’s consolidated periodic budgets and forecasts in line with established deadlines
  • Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts for companies within the group in line with established deadlines

People Management:

  • Prepare forms and manuals for accounting personnel and direct their work and activities;
  • Where applicable coach; supervise and manage team members;
  • Prepare KPI and conduct annual performance appraisal for all staff under your responsibility;
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed; and
  • Any other assignments as may be delegated by the Group Head of Finance.

  • Nil or limited issues/concerns highlighted in Auditor’s yearly management letter about accounts, systems, records, information

 Education/Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

 Relevant Experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field.
