Animal Keeper

The animal keeper is responsible for protecting and monitoring the physical, mental and social health of the animals in the collection

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Daily Check of the animal’s health, breeding condition and behaviour.
• Prepare feed for the animals
• Clean and disinfects the exhibits as per Cleaning Procedure.
• Capture and restrain animals for veterinary work or for transfer to another enclosure
• Ensure the enrichment programme is followed
• Ensure structural enrichment is in good condition
• Inspect fencing and drains daily
• Report to Animal Husbandry officer and/or Assistant head Keeper
• Keep records as required
• Participate in on call roster for emergency procedures
• Carry out guided visits on educational and conservation subjects

• Caring towards animals
• Working knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment.
• Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
• Physical strength, stamina and agility.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Observational skills
