Our client, an independently owned Trust company based in Black River, is looking for an Accountant.

JOB SUMMARY

Part of the client accounting department, you will be responsible for the maintenance of bookkeeping and accounting for a portfolio of clients including review of bookkeeping for more junior team members. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES 

1.          Assist the Manager to review and set appropriate controls to ensure complete and accurate bookkeeping and accounting of the client book.

2.         Assisting Junior Accountants and maintain a high level of technical knowledge and apply this to the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting of the clients.

3.         Keep up to date accounting records for client entities, paying particular attention to bank statements, agreements, invoices, contracts and other documents signed by an entity.

4.         Liaising with the Administration Team on accounts queries.

5.         Prepare and review annual financial statements, management accounts, solvency test, asset statements and other ad-hoc financial reporting where applicable in accordance with IFRS, with accuracy and completeness.

6.         Prepare FSC Surveys on a quarterly basis and ensure filing is done within deadline.

7.          Preparation and filing of tax returns as prescribed by the Mauritius Revenue Authority, ensuring tax compliance for all clients.

8.         Liaising with auditors for GBC and other required client entities.

9.         Preparation and filing of tax returns, including and not limited to CTX/VAT/TDS/APS returns and tax return for UK property holding with HRMC (NRL/ATED).

10.        Ensure that regulatory deadlines for client entities are met e.g. BVI business filings, Seychelles filings, Trust taxation etc…

11.         Be a point of contact for clients in the absence of the Manager.

12.        Respond promptly to customer’s enquiries, attend client meetings where required and ensure all appropriate actions are being taken to ensure client satisfaction.

13.        Provide assistance to the accounting team as required and assist the Manager in coaching of Junior Accountants.

14.        Proactively identify billing opportunities for the company.

15.        Maintain an awareness of changes to the relevant financial, legal and regulatory framework within which the company operates.

16.        Completing any other duties as may be required from time to time in accordance with the requirements of the role, team and evolving nature of the function.

17.        In all aspects of your role, display and adhere to the company’s vision and values.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

•           Degree holder in accounting field; or at least ACCA Level 2

•           Minimum 2-3 years accounting experience, preferably within the global business industry

•           Good understanding of accounting, audit issues and basic tax compliance matters along with applicable laws and regulations

•           Strong numerical and analytical skills

•           Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

•           Acute attention to detail

•           Excellent team player and willing to go the extra mile

•           Ability to deal with complex issues in a timely and proactive manner

•           Client Accounting team

•           Client Administration team

•           External stakeholders e.g. auditors, tax agents, regulatory authorities.
