As an Assistant Butcher, your main role is to prepare and handle meat products. You will be responsible for tasks like cutting, trimming, packaging, and ensuring the freshness and quality of the meat.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and handle meat products
Assist in cutting, trimming, and preparing various cuts of meat according to specifications and standards set by the Head Butcher.
Support in the preparation and marination of meats, following established recipes and processes.
Collaborate in developing new marinade formulations and seasoning blends for processed meats.
Help document processes for the production of processed and marinated meats, ensuring consistency and quality.
Aid in ensuring proper storage, handling, and rotation of meat products to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
Assist customers with basic inquiries and help provide recommendations on meat selection and preparation.
Contribute to inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages or discrepancies.
Assist in labeling and pricing meat products accurately.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the meat department, adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Work with the meat department team to coordinate daily tasks and special promotions.
Support training for new staff members under the supervision of the Head Butcher.
Perform quality checks on meat products to ensure they meet department standards
Qualifications:
High school certificate or equivalent
Previous experience in a similar role preferred
Knowledge of meat products and cuts
Ability to use meat processing equipment
Good communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings weekends, and holidays.
Willingness to work in a refrigerated environment and lift heavy objects
Sharpen and adjust cutting equipment
Receive, inspect, and store meat upon delivery
Valid food-handlers certificate
Valid certificate of character
