Myjob is looking for a workshop assistant who will provide day to day hands-on supervision on staff to ensure sufficient, clean, safe and defect-free vehicles are available for service in line with Company Policies, Regulatory Standards and Statutory guidelines, deadlines and requirements.

 

 

Key responsibilities: Workshop supervision

     • To control and allocate the flow of work through the workshop to make the best use of staff, equipment and other resources and record in Labour Distribution Register.

    • To ensure that vehicles are maintained and cleaned on a daily basis and there are sufficient vehicles to meet business requirements, in particular the morning run out.

    • To ensure that engineering lost mileage is kept to a minimum and take appropriate, hands-on corrective action where required including carrying out mechanical repairs when required.

    • To ensure that vehicles are serviced in accordance with service schedules.

     • To ensure that pro-active planned maintenance is carried out on vehicles to prevent problems occurring.

     • To ensure that any PSV testing failures are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.

      • To ensure that the workshop housekeeping and operating practices are of a high standard and that special tools and equipment is well maintained.

    • To ensure that each vehicle has a full documented history of work on Navision carried out to satisfy Construction & Use regulations of PSV and company requirements.

    • To act as a technical expert in the Workshop, advising staff on tasks and sharing knowledge, for example through regular toolbox talks.

    • To implement management decisions.

    • To assist the Workshop Manager or his Assistant by dealing with HR issues as they arise and in accordance with company procedures, escalating more serious matters as appropriate

    • To be a member of the Health and Safety Committee and ensure that members are kept informed of key health and safety issues and potential solutions. 

 

Qualifications:

  • National vocational standard level in Engineering at level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience. Desirable: Health and Safety qualification, PSV licence .
  • Good listening skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, confident and respectful with people. The ability to give and receive feedback in a patient and constructive manner
  • The ability to seek and gain agreement with third parties in order to achieve a given objective or goal.
  • Able to use software such as Word, email, internet, fleet management systems to process and present information in line with responsibilities.
  • Able to work to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
  •  Well organised, calm and cheerful under pressure.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in vehicle maintenance, including diagnostics
  • Understanding of the requirements of an Operator’s Licence
  • Experience in public transport environment an advantage.
