Our client, an Energy Service Company with an operational focus in Africa who provide reliable, clean and renewable on-grid and off grid power delivery solutions is looking for a Health and Safety Officer.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and deploying a safety culture that results in a cohesive delivery of regulatory and control programs in place to achieve zero preventable injury and illness at all worksites.

Main responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinates, supports and guides the Executive Team on all aspects of the Business with regards to Health and Safety.
  • Setting up, communicate and train the company standards compliant to Law.
  • Responds to all work site injury prepare all reports, documents as prescribed and as per standards.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
  • Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
  • Carries out inspections of workplaces and takes appropriate action to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and assist in the training and development qualified safety personnel on all worksites
  • Participate in the delivery of related safety programs and develop awareness of the standards to all workforce.
  • Perform prescribed surveys using technical equipment, evaluates results, and takes appropriate action, asrequired.
  • Reviews the work of qualified employees to ensure adequacy of service and to ensure safety standards aremet and policies are carried out.
  • Perform any other cognate duties as may be assigned by Management.

Qualification:

  • Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or any equivalent qualification.
  • Acceptable to the Ministry of Labour in Health and Safety qualification.
  • At least 5 years related experience in the workplace safety and health field and in a supervisory or management capacity.

Candidate profile:

  • Working knowledge of The Workplace Safety and Health Act and related legislation.
  • Knowledge of enforcement procedures.
  • Knowledge of the interface between labour and management in the workplace.
  • Knowledge and techniques of industrial (PV Construction etc.) methodology.
  • Working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) to at least intermediate stage
  • Ability to maintain effective work relationships.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills. 
  • Good supervisory skills. Knowledge of supervisory/management techniques.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Self-Starter, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confidentiality.
